The A/C condenser is designed to function as a heat exchanger. This component receives the hot, high-pressure gaseous refrigerant from the compressor and cools it to a warm liquid state under high pressure expelling heat removed from the cabin. As the condenser is installed in front of the radiator, its cooling fins are exposed to oncoming air through the grille and air pulled by the engine cooling fan. Condensers can leak due to corrosion or puncture, become internally clogged from debris if there is a compressor failure, and cooling ability can be compromised from damage to the fins.
